Our newest kit is ready – a bee and butterfly planter!
This is a 7 piece kit with all wood pieces pre-cut and pilot holes already drilled. Everything you’ll need is included in the kit, you just need to raid your tool box for a screwdriver! Inside the box you will receive:
- 7 wood components (back piece, x2 sides, base for the bee house section (larger of the square pieces), base for the butterfly house (middle sized square), base for the planter section (smaller square), front panel (with slits for butterflies).
- Bits and bobs packet (x20 screws)
- Cardboard bee tubes
- Sandpaper (we hand make each kit so we advise giving the edges a little sand)
We’ve spent quite a bit of time on the design of this kit and hope you like it! When built, the lower section is to provide a safe space for bees to have a little rest. We’ve included some cardboard tubes which they love to crawl in to. We’ve made this section quite big which is to encourage you and your child to scavenge the garden for other materials which the bees can use to make it their home (e.g. leaves, hay, straw). The next (middle) section has the slots cut out on the front for butterflies. Before screwing on the front panel, add some twigs or bark so that the butterflies have something to rest on. The top section is the planter. Add something to attract your flying friends! We really like lavender as it smells lush and is brightly coloured. Once you’ve built this, don’t forget to paint and decorate it before hanging it in your garden!
This project is being delivered with support from the Hinkley Point C Community Fund which means the price has been supplemented for families who live outside of the West Somerset and Sedgemoor areas. Kits are available on a first come/first served basis and one per family.
